OVER ACTIVE BLADDER

Overactive bladder was a problem with bladder-storage and function that may cause a sudden urge to urinate. This urge may be very difficult to stop & overactive bladder can lead to the involuntary loss of urine. More than 40% of people who are suffering with overactive bladder will have incontinence. While about 40% – 70% of urinary incontinence was due to overactive bladder, but it was not a life-threatening. Many people with this condition may have problems for several years.

CAUSES:

The main cause of overactive bladder was unknown. Risk factors that may includes like: obesity, caffeine constipation and the most common abnormalities of the nervous system that may cause overactive bladder are like: Strokes, Spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, back problems (degenerative disc disease, disc hernia), diabetic neuropathy, parkinson’s disease, dementia. Other causes may includes like benign prostatic enlargement (BPH), urinary tract infection, urethral strictures, bladder stones or bladder tumors. Usually, there was no apparent cause of overactive bladder is determined (idiopathic overactive bladder).

SYMPTOMS:

  • Suddenly feels urge to urinate that’s will be so difficult to control

  • Experience urge incontinence — the involuntary loss of the urine instantly following an urgent need to urinate

  • Frequent urination, generally 8 or more than 8 times in 24 hours

  • Awaken 2 or more times in the night to pass urine (nocturia)

Even though patient may be able to go to the toilet in that time when they sense an urge to urinate, surprising frequent urination and nighttime urination will interrupt your life.

DIAGNOSIS:

  • Urine culture: Your doctor will ask you to leave a sample of urine to test for any signs of infections or blood.

  • Bladder scan: This kind of ultrasound will show how much urine was still in the bladder after you pass the urine.

  • Cystoscopy:  In this test, the doctor may insert a narrow tube along with a minute lens in the bladder. This will be used to rule out the other causes of symptoms.

  • Urodynamic testing: This test will check to see how good your lower urinary tract stores and releases the urine.
