Undescended testicle (cryptorchidism) was a testicle that won’t move into its proper position in a bag of skin hanging under the penis also called as scrotum this will happen before the birth. Generally just one testicle was affected, but about 10% of the time, both testicles were undescended. An undescended testicle was a uncommon condition in general, but quite common in baby boys born prematurely.
The wide majority of the time, the undescended testicle moves in its exact position on its own, in the first few months of life. Undescended testes were related along with the reduced fertility, higher risk of testicular germ cell tumors & psychological problems when the boy was grown. Undescended testes were also more liable to testicular torsion (and subsequent infarction) & inguinal hernias. Without intervention, an undescended testicle will generally descend in the 1st year of life, but to decrease these risks and complications, undescended testes may be brought into the scrotum at the time of infancy by a surgical treatment called an orchiopexy.
SYMPTOMS:
Not able to seen or feeling a testicle which you could expect it to be in the scrotum is the major sign of an undescended testicle.
CAUSES:
The exact cause of the undescended testicle was unknown. The combination of genetics, maternal health & other environmental factors may disrupt the hormones, physical changes & nerve activity that may influence the development of the testicles.
DIAGNOSIS:
Doctors generally diagnose cryptorchidism at the time of a physical examination at birth or at a checkup shortly after. The testicle doesn’t drop after 3 months of age, so the only one treatment choice was surgery. Surgery was suggested after 6 months of age. The timing takes into the account when the child was able to handle anesthesia & the surgery. Drugs or hormone treatment were not useful. This surgery was called an orchiopexy. The child was put under (general anesthesia) for this operation. Almost in every case always the child can leave the hospital and go home the same day & can back to normal within 1 to 2 days.
