LASER ENUCLEATION OF PROSTATE

Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) is a procedure to an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia). Holmium Laser Enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) was a modern substitute to the normal Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) HoLEP can be done in men with different ages with urinary outflow obstruction that is causes by an enlarged prostate. It is mainly indicated in the men with large prostates (size is over 60mls) and men under medications to thin the blood like clopidogrel, warfarin and aspirin.

PROCEDURE:

  • Holmium laser resection of the prostate utilize the holmium laser and is donw with a customized continuous flow resectoscope that is having a circular fibre guide at the tip of the scope.

  • An end-firing laser fibre was used as a accurate cutting instrument to resect large pieces of prostate. With the help of laser resected tissue was cut into smaller pieces before their removal.

  • Further progress of the method is holmium laser enucleation of the prostate, in this the intact prostatic lobes were removed with the help of holmium laser and after then it was passed into the bladder where they cut into tiny pieces before removing.

  • With HoLEP, doctors may remove the whole portion of the prostate gland that will blocks the urine flow, which improve the urinary symptoms and offers a lasting result as there is nothing to grow back following this method.

  • HoLEP is an less invasive and effective treatment, compared with other treatments and alternative choice to the older procedures, more traditional procedures of removing prostate obstructions. In addition to this, HoLEP keeps removed tissue for microscopic study.

HoLEP method was a complete debulking of the prostate and little surprise that this procedure produces long-lasting long-term outcomes.
